2027 Toyota Camry Review, Prices, Trims, MPG and Which One to Buy

027 Toyota Camry XSE AWD in Heavy Metal with black roof on a Kentucky country road

The 2027 Toyota Camry is a hybrid only midsize sedan that starts at $29,700 and gets up to 51 mpg combined. Every version uses the same 2.5 liter hybrid system, with 225 horsepower on front wheel drive models and 232 horsepower with all wheel drive.

Toyota kept the trims, features and options the same as last year. That is good news if you want a proven car. It also means you can shop a leftover 2026 model with a clear conscience.

This guide covers every trim, real prices, fuel economy, safety tech and the version we think most people should buy.

What Is New for the 2027 Toyota Camry?

Very little, and that is on purpose. The current ninth generation Camry arrived for the 2025 model year, so 2027 is a carryover year.

Toyota confirmed the grades, features and options carry over unchanged. The car stays hybrid only, and all wheel drive is still available on every trim.

Here is what defines this generation:

  1. Hybrid power on every trim. There is no gas only or V6 Camry anymore.
  2. Fifth generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5). It uses a lithium ion battery and is tuned so engine sound rises with your speed, which feels more natural.
  3. AWD on all five trims. It uses a separate electric motor on the rear axle.
  4. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard equipment.
  5. Sharper styling with the hammerhead front end and LED lights on every trim.

If you were hoping for a plug in hybrid, a bigger touchscreen as standard or a new trim, those changes did not happen this year.

2027 Toyota Camry Price by Trim

2027 Toyota Camry lineup with LE, SE, Nightshade, XLE and XSE parked side by side

All prices below are Toyota’s starting MSRP. They do not include the dealer processing and handling fee, which adds roughly $1,300. Check the window sticker for the exact amount.

TrimFWD PriceAWD Price
LE$29,700$31,225
SE$32,200$33,725
Nightshade$33,200$34,725
XLE$34,900$36,425
XSE$36,100$37,625

All wheel drive costs $1,525 more on every trim. Option packages on the XLE and XSE can push the final price past $40,000, so price out the packages before you visit a dealer.

A quick money tip: sedans tend to sell for closer to sticker than Toyota SUVs, but dealer discounts do happen. Get written out the door quotes from two or three dealers. Compare the total, not the monthly payment.

2027 Camry Trims Explained

Think of the lineup as two paths. The LE and XLE focus on comfort. The SE, Nightshade and XSE focus on sporty looks and a firmer, sport tuned suspension.

LE: The Value Pick

The LE is the cheapest Camry and the most fuel efficient one. It rides on 16 inch alloy wheels, which helps it earn that 51 mpg rating.

Key features:

  1. 8 inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  2. 7 inch digital gauge cluster
  3. Woven fabric seats with a wave inspired pattern
  4. Dual zone automatic climate control with rear vents
  5. Qi wireless phone charging and five USB ports
  6. Full Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 plus Blind Spot Monitor

Buy the LE if you care most about price and mpg and do not need leather or a big screen.

SE: The Most Popular Choice

The SE adds a sportier look for $2,500 more than the LE. You get a sport mesh grille, 18 inch black wheels, a rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips.

Inside, the SE has SofTex synthetic leather seats with white accents, aluminum sport pedals and a leather wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. The sport tuned suspension gives sharper handling.

The trade off is fuel economy. The bigger wheels and tires drop the combined rating into the mid 40s.

Nightshade: Blacked Out Style

The Nightshade builds on the SE with a darker look. It gets unique 19 inch wheels and Midnight Black Metallic trim on the grille, mirror caps, door handles, spoiler, rear diffuser and even the shark fin antenna.

It only comes in three colors: Ice Cap, Supersonic Red and Midnight Black Metallic. Features are close to the SE, so you are paying about $1,000 mostly for style.

XLE: The Comfort Trim

The XLE is the plush Camry. It adds leather and Dinamica microfiber trim, quilted door and dash panels, chrome accents and 18 inch wheels.

Upgrades over the lower trims include:

  1. 12.3 inch digital gauge cluster
  2. Heated front seats
  3. 8 way power driver and front passenger seats
  4. Acoustic glass in the front side windows for a quieter cabin
  5. Access to packages with a 12.3 inch touchscreen, ventilated seats, a 10 inch head up display, JBL audio and a panoramic roof

XSE: Sport Meets Luxury

The XSE is the top trim. It blends the sporty suspension and styling of the SE with the comfort features of the XLE.

It adds full leather seats with perforated patterns, 19 inch black and smoke gray wheels and the option of a two tone paint job with a black roof. The XSE also gets the same premium packages as the XLE.

Engine, Performance and AWD

Every 2027 Toyota Camry uses a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine paired with electric motors and a lithium ion battery. Front wheel drive models make 225 net horsepower. AWD models make 232.

You get three drive modes: Normal, Eco and Sport. The eCVT does not shift through gears, so acceleration feels smooth and steady.

In daily driving, the Camry has more than enough power for merging and passing. The engine can sound coarse when you push it hard, but it stays quiet at highway speeds.

How the Camry AWD System Works

The Camry does not use a driveshaft to the rear wheels. Instead, a small electric motor drives the rear axle when needed.

Most of the time, the car runs mainly on the front wheels to save fuel. When sensors detect slipping, the system sends torque to the rear wheels within moments.

Who should get AWD? It makes sense if you live where snow, ice or heavy rain are common. In warm, dry states, front wheel drive with good tires will serve you well and save you money and fuel.

Fuel Economy: How Many MPG Does the 2027 Camry Get?

Toyota rates the 2027 Camry LE FWD at 51 mpg combined. Toyota had not published full EPA figures for every 2027 trim at the time of writing. Because the car is unchanged, the ratings below follow the current generation’s EPA numbers and should carry over closely.

VersionCombined MPG (approx.)
LE FWD51 mpg
LE AWD50 mpg
SE, Nightshade, XLE, XSE FWDAbout 46 mpg
SE, Nightshade, XLE, XSE AWDAbout 44 to 46 mpg

We will update this table once final EPA ratings for the 2027 model are posted on FuelEconomy.gov.

What That Means for Your Wallet

Here is a simple example. We assume 15,000 miles a year and gas at $3.50 per gallon.

Fuel EconomyGallons per YearFuel Cost per Year
51 mpg (Camry LE)About 294About $1,029
46 mpg (Camry SE or XLE)About 326About $1,141
30 mpg (typical non hybrid midsize sedan)500$1,750

The LE can save you over $700 a year compared with a 30 mpg car. Over five years, that covers a big chunk of the price gap between trims.

Real World MPG Tips

Your results will vary. Hybrids are very sensitive to weather and driving style.

  1. Expect lower mpg in winter. The engine runs more to make heat, and cold batteries are less efficient. A drop of several mpg in freezing weather is normal.
  2. City driving can beat highway driving. Hybrids recover energy when braking, so stop and go traffic is where they shine.
  3. Watch your tires. Keep them at the pressure on the door jamb sticker. When you replace them, low rolling resistance tires help protect your mpg.
  4. Use Eco mode on long commutes. It softens throttle response and helps you drive smoother.

Interior, Comfort and Cargo Space

The Camry cabin feels open and modern. A row of physical climate buttons sits under the screen, which makes basic controls easy to use while driving.

The flat roofline gives good headroom in both rows. The rear seat is wide enough for three adults on short trips or two car seats with room to spare. Wide doors make getting in and out easy, even for older passengers.

The front seats are on the firm side. Some drivers love the support on long trips, while others find them stiff at first. Sit in one for at least 20 minutes on your test drive.

The trunk holds 15.1 cubic feet. That is enough for a big grocery run or a few large suitcases, though some rivals offer a bit more. Small item storage is smart, with large door pockets and a handy bin near the wireless charger.

Technology and Infotainment

Every 2027 Toyota Camry comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can skip the cable.

Gauge cluster7 inch digital12.3 inch digital
Speakers66 standard, 9 speaker JBL available

Wireless chargingStandardStandard

Connected services include five year trials of Safety Connect, Service Connect and Remote Connect. Wi Fi Connect comes with a 30 day or 3 GB trial. After the trials end, these services need a paid subscription.

Our take: the 8 inch screen works fine, especially with phone mirroring. If you want the larger screen and better sound, you will need an XLE or XSE with a package.

Safety Features and Ratings

Safety is one of the strongest reasons to buy a Camry. Every trim gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes:

  1. Pre Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  2. Full Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  3. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  4. Lane Tracing Assist
  5. Road Sign Assist
  6. Automatic High Beams
  7. Proactive Driving Assist

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Assist are also standard. Safe Exit Assist can warn you before you open a door into the path of a passing car or bike.

Proactive Driving Assist is worth explaining. It gently brakes or steers to help keep space from a car ahead or a pedestrian, even when cruise control is off. It feels like a light helping hand, not a sudden stop.

Want to understand each feature in plain language? Our Toyota Explained section breaks down Safety Sense and hybrid tech with sources.

The XLE and XSE offer a Premium Plus Package with Traffic Jam Assist, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, a 360 degree Panoramic View Monitor and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking. Traffic Jam Assist allows hands free driving at low speeds in heavy traffic, when conditions allow, and needs an active Drive Connect plan.

This Camry generation earned a 5 star overall safety rating from NHTSA. Check NHTSA.gov for the exact 2027 rating once it is posted.

Colors

The 2027 Camry comes in ten exterior colors, though not every color is offered on every trim:

  1. Ocean Gem
  2. Heavy Metal
  3. Ice Cap
  4. Wind Chill Pearl
  5. Celestial Silver Metallic
  6. Underground
  7. Midnight Black Metallic
  8. Supersonic Red
  9. Reservoir Blue
  10. Dark Cosmos

The XSE offers select colors with a Midnight Black Metallic roof for a two tone look. Light colors like Ice Cap and Wind Chill Pearl also hide dust and swirl marks better, which matters if you do not wash your car often.

Warranty and Free Maintenance

Basic warranty3 years or 36,000 miles

The 10 year hybrid battery warranty transfers to the next owner. That is a real plus when you sell or trade in the car later.

Which 2027 Camry Trim Should You Buy?

There is no single best trim. Here is how we would choose based on your needs.

If You WantBest TrimWhy

Our pick for most buyers: the XLE. It costs about $5,200 more than the LE. For that, you get heated power seats, a larger driver display, a quieter cabin and access to the best tech packages. It feels like a near luxury car for daily use.

If your budget is tight, the LE is a great buy. You still get the same powertrain and safety tech, plus the best fuel economy in the lineup.

2027 vs 2026 Toyota Camry: Should You Wait or Buy Last Year’s?

The 2026 and 2027 Camry are nearly the same car. Same engine, same trims, same tech and same safety features.

That gives you leverage. If a dealer still has a new 2026 Camry, ask for a better price on it. Just compare the full out the door cost, since leftover deals vary a lot by region.

The main reason to choose a 2027 is resale value. A newer model year usually trades in for a little more later.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  1. Excellent fuel economy on every trim
  2. AWD available on all five trims
  3. Strong list of standard safety features
  4. Quiet, roomy cabin with easy entry and exit
  5. Long hybrid battery warranty that transfers to new owners

Cons

  1. Engine sounds rough under hard acceleration
  2. Front seats feel firm for some drivers
  3. Trunk is smaller than some rivals
  4. Bigger screen and premium audio cost extra
  5. No plug in hybrid option

Living With a Camry Hybrid: Owner Tips

A Camry is built to last for many years. Some owners keep theirs for decades, like the driver in our story about 20 years with the same Toyota Camry.

A few habits help the hybrid version age well:

  1. Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual. Use the exact oil grade Toyota lists. Newer hybrid engines often call for very thin oil.
  2. Do not skip ToyotaCare visits. They are free for the first year or 10,000 miles.
  3. Expect brake pads to last longer. Regenerative braking does much of the slowing, so the pads see less wear.
  4. Drive it regularly. Long periods of sitting can drain the small 12 volt battery that starts the hybrid system.
  5. Keep the hybrid battery cooling vent clear. Do not block it with bags or blankets in the back seat area.

How the Camry Compares to Rivals

The main rival is the Honda Accord Hybrid. The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is another strong option. The Camry stands out because every trim is a hybrid and AWD is available across the lineup.

Within Toyota’s own lineup, the Prius gets even better mileage in a smaller package. If you are curious how Toyota’s smaller hybrids differ, read our guide on the Toyota Prius vs Prius c.

Need more room for family? Toyota has gone hybrid only on other models too, like the minivan in our 2025 Toyota Sienna review.

Final Verdict

The 2027 Toyota Camry does not reinvent itself, and it does not need to. It is a comfortable, safe and very efficient midsize sedan with hybrid power on every trim.

For most people, the XLE offers the best mix of comfort and value. If saving money matters most, the LE gives you the same core car with the best mpg. Either way, you are buying one of the most practical sedans on the road today.
